Orlovaca Groblje in Belgrade

Located in Belgrade's municipality of Cukarica, orlovaca groblje is one of the main cemeteries in the capital of Serbia. It is the only one that lies entirely within the urban area of the city and is situated alongside Ibarska magistrala, the road separating Zvezdara from the suburbs.

The cemetery is surrounded by a large greenery and populated mostly by Serbs, although a significant number of citizens from other ethnicities also live here. The cemetery is famous for the beautiful monument of a soldier, placed in the centre of the field. It is an ode to the soldiers of the Austro-Serbian army who were killed during the Battle of the Orlovaca gorge in 1848.

In the beginning of 20th century, the area on top of the Veliki Vracar hill was designed for afforestation and the forest creation. The result was a unique and artificially created green zone in the urban tissue of Belgrade. Currently, the Veliki Vracar hill is home to an observatory, and seven small stadiums (FC 29. Novembar, FC Zvezdara, FC Mladi proleter). Parts of the northern section of the Zvezdara Forest are occupied by industrial facilities (Konjarnik, plastics Bukulja, precise and optical instruments Precizna mehanika) and a small part is used for housing purposes (Mijeova, Dragoslava Srejovica, Milana Rakica).

The bulk of the commercial zone in the municipality of Zvezdara stretches along Bulevar kralja Aleksandra. It is the longest street in Belgrade with over a kilometre of length and hosts a great variety of shops of all types. Apart from dozens of stores, this zone is also known for its numerous street vendors.
